"Understood sir!"
Tony unsheathed his two-handed sword and swung it down at the troll's neck.
After several downward swings, the head finally separated from the body.
"Anybody, hurt?"
Patrick asked.
"Just scratches and bruises, no serious injuries."
"Good! Is Wayne all right?"
"Yeah, you saved me, platoon commander!"
Wayne responded with a half-laugh.
"But we're out of luck to run into a troll so close to the Royal Capital, aren't we?"
Everyone nodded at Patrick's words.
"In any case, we'll bring back the troll's head and report it! Get ready to retreat."
""Roger that.""
"That concludes my report! Colonel!"
Patrick said.
"Good work! We will take care of the remaining investigation. Go back and have a rest."
A blue-eyed man with a bald head and a body resembling a barrel replied.
"Yes! Excuse me."
Patrick saluted and left.
"A troll in the nearby forest, huh? What do you think?"
"I don't like this one bit, I hope it's just a stray. But what do you think, Colonel Reardon?"
"If it's a stray, that's fine, but if it's a scout, that could be tricky. Trolls usually work in groups of around three, right? Worst case scenario, there might be two more lurking around."
"How should we proceed with the investigation?"
"Send a mobile ballista and a full company. I'll let you decide which one to send out."
"Yes! Right away!"
The returned Patrick and the others slept like logs after they reported back with the troll's head, exhaustion overcoming them.
The next day, Patrick was awakened by a loud commotion in the barracks.
"Hurry up and bring a stretcher!"
"Where are the bandages? Hurry up!"
"Pull yourself together! Stay awake! Don't fall asleep!"
Yelling and running footsteps.
As I walked out of the private room and towards the sound, I saw a soldier on a stretcher on his way to the first aid room.
"Hey, what happened?"
I grabbed a nearby private first class and proceeded to question him.
"A company that went out to investigate encountered two trolls and were decimated in combat. Resulting in fifteen of them being injured, including three severely, and they have just returned."
He said, and left.
(If they left to investigate immediately after that, they arrived in the evening? Did they fight a night battle!? Who was the commander? It doesn't matter how slow a troll is, a night battle is not a good idea! He said two of them, right? What was he planning to do if they got pinned down?)
Even though the speed of trolls was slow, the forest at night was not something a person could run across easily. If they did, they would be bound to sprain their ankles. Stones and branches could easily twist their ankles.
When it came to walking, a troll with a wider stride was faster.
Therefore, in the forest, the theory was to fight in the daytime.
(I bet he learned that in military training. Was he too impatient for success? Or were they attacked while encamped? I suppose it's too late for that now.)
