Orders.
Those are absolute for a soldier.
Patrick, who was now a Second Lieutenant, had one Company of men.
A Platoon consists of 10 men; three of them together constitute a Company.
A Company consists of 30 soldiers, Patrick, and 10 Supply Corps members (a unit that transports and escorts food and supplies). In total, 41 men make up a company.
"How do we sweep?"
Each platoon leader was gathered for a meeting.
"What do you think Wayne?"
I asked Wayne, who was in charge of one Platoon in Patrick's Company.
"Assuming that the monsters can be annihilated appropriately as needed, the problem is the bandits."
Bandits were robbers who appeared on the roads. In most cases, bands of them would attack merchants' wagons and rob them of their goods.
They would kidnap children and women, and kill men. According to the orders, there were more than 50 bandits in the area. These so-called outlaws had been attacking not only merchants but also aristocrats' carriages lately.
In the case of aristocrats, the purpose of the crime was to collect ransom. If rumors spread that a nobleman had been kidnapped, the nobleman would not be able to maintain his reputation; so it seemed that the aristocrats were paying the ransom without reporting it to the government.
When the son of a baron who had no money was kidnapped, he cried out to the kingdom, and the kingdom finally found out about it.
The kingdom tried to capture them by hiding at the ransom delivery site, but were easily exposed. Consequently, the son's head was apparently openly displayed later in a park in the Royal Capital, shaking the dignity of the kingdom.
Since then, the military had been periodically investigating the roads, but had yet to capture any of them.
"How did the military investigate?"
"Apparently, it seems one company paraded around the road. And it was reported that, in all likelihood, the bandits were too scared to come out."
"Are they all idiots?"
"If they know it's the military, they're not going to come out to steal anything."
"Even if they snatched the weapons, we would have a lead when they sell them."
Then we discussed this and that.
"Then we will carry out this operation. Tomorrow will be a preparation day, and we will set out early the next morning. All of you, be prepared!"
With Patrick's words, the meeting ended.
Each platoon leader began moving.
